[[Antitheism]] is an [[atheism|atheistic]] viewpoint that opposes the existence of [[religion]]. Antitheists believe that religion has a negative impact on society and that the world would be a better place without religion.

== Claims ==
Antitheists believe that [[theism]] in the modern day is a form of delusion, and that [[human|humanity]] has outgrown the need for belief in [[Spirit#Immortal spiritual beings|gods]]. They view [[religion]] as a primitive attempt by ancient humans to explain scientific phenomena they could not yet understand.

Antitheists assert that the existence of religion in the modern day obstructs scientific development, hampers sociopolitical progress, and facilitates oppression.
